
Athanasios Mamakos
Athanasios Mamakos was elected Mayor of Larissa in the October 2023 Local Government Elections, with 51,17%, and assumed office on January 1st, 2024.
He is a board member of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE) and President of the Digital Governance Committee, as well as Vice-President of the Hellenic Association of Municipal Water & Sewage Utilities (EDEYA) Board. Mr.Mamakos has also been elected President of the Solid Waste Management Agency of Thessaly Board, in October 2025.
Born and raised in Larissa, he studied law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and continued his postgraduate studies at the University of Macedonia, in European Youth Policies, Department of International European and Economic Studies. His political journey in the Local Government began in 2003, when he was elected Municipal Councilor of the Municipality of Giannouli (until 2010), his hometown. In 2007, he served as Mayor of Giannouli.
From 2011 to 2023, he served as a Municipal Councilor of the Municipality of Larissa, having assumed, during his term, the duties of Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor for Financial Services, Local & Agricultural Economy and Administration. During the same time, he also served as President of the Financial Committee of the Municipality of Larissa.
As a freelance attorney, he has practiced law for more than 25 years (Attorney to the Supreme Court, with areas of specialization in Civil Law, Administrative Law, Commercial Law, General Data Protection Regulation, Sports Law).
He has also served as a member of the Disciplinary Council of Lawyers of the Larissa Court of Appeal, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Larissa Juvenile Protection Society, as well as a member of many sports and cultural clubs.
Athanasios Mamakos resides in Giannouli, Larissa, he is married to Agape Kolovou-Mamakou and has two children.
